Finally an SEO Project Management System

Posted in Marketing Ideas on November 30, 2006 at 12:14 am by Paul Drago

SoloSEO is a new SEO project management software. Thus far it seems fairly interesting– the pricing of 29 dollars a month is rather reasonable. Its great to have all of these tools in the same place (finally)

I love these kind of projects where after you see it you simply so “duh” why the hell did it take this long for a web-based PM system like this to exist for a very web based industry.

All the best to the folks at SoloSEO.

A SoloSEO Review:

When I fired up SoloSEO I was a bit surprised at the starting point, but I can understand– the system is intended for the novice user. And frankly, it is a good check list for everyone.

I am still reading up and tying to figure out the full value of the Link Build It! Bookmarklet. The basic premise is to create a centeralized location for storage of all your link building information. (It pulls pagerank of the bookmarked page and also gives an estimate to how many backlinks exist for the page)

I can’t wait to see how that expand the process and expand the entire concept behind the SoloSEO project. The checklists are great– but I am excited to see what kind of documentation it provides for the VERY novice SEO.

A few things I’d love to see added to the system:

  • Storage of keywords in their keyword report.
  • Stronger documentation for the novice SEO. Make it new user friendly. Give more than one or two brief sentences explaining what something does.
  • I’d love to be able to start a task and then move on and come back when the task is done (maybe have a status bar on the right hand side to let me know when a certain takes like the competitive analysis tool is done)
  • A select all on the competition link search would be grand– I dont want to have to go through and click them all
  • I wish the software had more customization available–  I’d like to be able to move things around and create an interface that makes a bit more sense to me
  • Again, I wish I could start the “keyword finder all 3 search” without having to sit on the page and actually wait for the report to finish.  I am not that patient.
  • “More”  What the hell does more mean?  Does it need its own header navigation?

Also, I love the fact that they give a hat tip to SEOmoz when they use Rand’s link hunting methodology.  I am also stuck between on the fence– on one hand I’d personally love to get less hand-holding when using their system but I can absolutely understand why they would include it (and I’d love to see a novice option and gives even *MORE* hand holding) what to do.
I really do believe SoloSEO could be extremely useful for those running their first SEO campaign or for those webmasters who may be stuck wearing the SEO hat as well.

Nice review, thanks for the compliments.

The default checklists have some refining to do, I admit.

I wasn’t sure what you meant by “storage of keywords in keyword report”, please send me an email about that one.

We are now asking users at sign-up if they are “beginner” or “advanced” and in the future we can tailor the experience that way. Right now we’re showing them the same things.

The reports are now scheduled, so you can create one and let it run. When it’s done you’ll get an email (usually 3-5 minutes).

The competition link search tool came together last week in a hurry, so we have some work to do it on it yet. Good suggestion.

Yep, that all 3 keyword search is too long, we need to see what can be done.

“More” is kind of our big open playground where we can throw new tools that don’t fit under keywords, content, and links.

    Enjoy your 12 months. :)

    Michael,

Thanks for taking the time to read the post. I’ll email you later in the week (probably this weekend) and clarify some points.
